Our Staff


Our Dermatologists are qualified specialist doctors, who have been trained, examined and accredited by the Australasian College of Dermatologists (ACD). Our Dermatologists are registered medical specialists with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA). Dermatologists specialise in the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of skin diseases. Dermatologists are trained to prescribe medications and to perform skin procedures.


Associate Professor Douglas Gin MBBS   FACD

Associate Professor Douglas Gin as Head of Unit leads the Dermatology Department at the Alfred Hospital, a top tertiary teaching hospital providing highly specialised care for Victoria’s most complex patients.

He is also Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor in Department of Medicine at Monash University, teaching Medical Students and Dermatology Registrars for over 30 years at the Alfred Hospital.

A graduate of University of Melbourne Medical Faculty and a Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, he has been practicing since 1986, specialising in all aspects of Medical Dermatology, in particular psoriasis, eczema, vitiligo and skin cancers.

His keen interest in teaching extends beyond the Faculty to other medical practitioners. He recently received the Distinguished Services Award from Royal Australian College of General Practitioners in 2014 for his role in GP teaching for over 30 years – the only non-GP to receive this prestigious award.


Dr Alexander Gin MBBS  BMedSci   FACD

Dr Alexander Gin is a consultant dermatologist and Fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists. 

Alex completed his specialist training in Victoria and has worked at multiple tertiary hospitals including The Royal Melbourne Hospital, St Vincent’s Hospital, The Royal Children’s Hospital and the Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. Alex has two years’ experience working overseas in United Kingdom, and completed a fellowship in Dermatology and Lymphovascular Medicine at St George’s Hospital in London. He is passionate about dermatology in the developing world and has spent time volunteering in Tanzania and Myanmar. 

Alex was awarded the Herman Lawrence Prize in Clinical Dermatology. His research has been published in a number of medical journals, and presented at both national and international conferences. 

In addition to his private practice, Alex works as a consultant dermatologist at The Alfred Hospital where he is involved in education of medical students and dermatology trainees. He is committed to lecturing at a number of GP training workshops. 

Alex is dedicated to all aspects of general dermatology including skin cancer, acne, eczema, psoriasis, rosacea and paediatric conditions. Alex is keen to help patients overcome their skin problems. 


Dr Sarah Gamboni MBBS BSc (Hons) BMBS FACD

Dr Sarah Gamboni is a fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists.

She completed her dermatology specialist training in Victoria, having worked at major tertiary hospitals in Melbourne. Sarah also completed a year of her dermatology training in the UK, where she had the opportunity to work with her overseas colleagues as well as attending international conferences in London and Europe.

Prior to dermatology training, Sarah worked as a junior doctor at The Alfred, where she worked at the Victorian Melanoma Service. She also completed and published research at the Skin Health Institute in allergic contact dermatitis. Sarah has presented research both locally in Australia and at the Royal Society of Medicine meeting in London. Sarah enjoys working as a general dermatologist including treating acne, skin cancer, women’s and paediatric dermatology, eczema and psoriasis. In addition to private practice, she holds public appointments at The Alfred and The Royal Women’s Hospital. She enjoys providing excellent care for her patients.


Associate Professor Stephen Gilmore MBBS   MD   FACD

Associate Professor Gilmore is a Dermatologist of many years’ experience and a researcher with an interest in statistics, bioinformatics and modelling skin disease.

His main interest is in general dermatology, particularly psoriasis, eczema, acne, mole assessment and skin cancer.
